It is about six more days and boxing's Pride of the Philippines and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao will square off with Puerto Rico's WBO Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. I'm not a big boxing fan but I am definitely Manny's fan. I don't watch boxing if it's not Manny who's fighting and don't know technically anything about the sport rather than punching each other before. But because of my husband's influence (and teachings), I don't just know the rules of the sport but know some of lively commentators as well like HBO's Larry Merchant and my favorite Jim Lampley. The fight is scheduled in 12 rounds on Saturday night of November 14 but actually it would be November 15 here in the Philippines at around 11AM. Our barangay's covered basketball court would probably be jammed pack again by spectator from all around the place on Sunday as there would again be a free live viewing here. But unfortunately, I might catch the fight on replays since I will watch out for our shop that Sunday. Unlike his (Manny) first fight with Ricky Hatton, I was able to watch it with husby in the court because of my mother's presence here those days as she used to babysit baby Eloise. But now that she's long gone, I am sure my husband will not afford to take baby Eloise along with us because last fight, we barely had a room to breathe because of too much people in the basketball court. Add to that, that most of them are men who smoke while watching so I am pretty sure I'll be with Eloise at home. But it's okay, anyway, even if I watch it live, I will not absorb it right away as I can't clearly see the live projection in screen because of the brightness of the sun that time. If only we have cable, my husband will probably subscribe PPV and we will see the fight clearer much of like in bell tv in the US. Anyway, clear or not is fine with me, as long as Manny wins, we can celebrate anyway we can and that is all that matters. Go Manny!
