beware of influenza

It is alarming that influenza viruses are now active again and posing great threats to us. Although there's no recorded incident of infection or outbreak here in the Philippines yet, our company imposed a mandatory vaccination for every employee against influenza. Good thing I have been included in the first batch of the treatment last week. I am fully confident that I'm 100% free from influenza virus from getting into my system. But I am worried about our baby Eloise who has a fever last Monday that's why I obliged my husband to rush baby Eloise to her pediatrician. We were quite relieved (although we're still worried) that she only has tonsillitis. We are now treating her with the prescribed medicines and are hoping she get well fast.

But to be aware, my husband and I researched about the influenza. The common term now for the active influenza strain is "swine flu" which viruses formed and originated from pigs (also H1N1). It has toppled "avian flu" or bird flu (also H5N1), although quite deadly, to being contagious to humans. Lest, there should not be some misconceptions about how we can get it. I have read that eating pork is safe as long as it is well-cooked. But diverting to veggies is as safe as it is healthy, so we are chowing now every vegetables we could find in the market. And as the old folks say about proper hygiene, always wash your hands before and after eating. One more thing, yes we do love Babe, but domesticating a pig or a piglet nowadays I think, is inappropriate.
